Dining Out Sustainably: East Side Show Room

Have you ever wondered what it felt like to eat in a French cafe or cabaret in the 1920's?  I imagine that it was something like dining at East Side Show Room.  As you step through the door of this East 6th Street restaurant, you feel as if you are stepping back in time.

From the decor to craft cocktails to the rustic French cuisine, East Side Show Room whisks you away to a different time and place - a time rich in artists, writers, musicians and ideas.  The atmosphere is festive and, once the music starts later in the evening, sometimes a little rowdy.

As much fun as it is to lose yourself in the place, the real reason to visit East Side Show Room is Chef Sonya Cote's food.   The menu is a celebration of local meat, fish, produce and cheeses highlighting the best of what's available in Central Texas.

Okra with lemon

During a visit last fall, my friends and I enjoyed the house specials including tempura fried okra with lemon, axis deer with house cured bacon, chicken fried rabbit and a lovely Texas cheese plate.   Each dish was rich and satisfying - French comfort food to be savored while sharing with friends.

When you need some French comfort or to step back in time for a bit, head to East Side Show Room.  You'll be giving yourself a treat and supporting local farms and ranches while you do it.
