The Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival kicked off today with their 24th annual showcase of the best in Texas culinary arts. The festival includes a wide variety of events including the Stars Across Texas Grand Tasting Friday night ($100) to the more accessibly priced Sunday Fair ($45, $30 for designated drivers) at the Vineyards at the Salt Lick. If you have the time and a little extra money, it is a great way to spend part of your weekend and it helps raise awareness of the great food and wine in Texas.
On Saturday the Downtown Austin Farmers Market will have the regular market from 9 am to 1 pm and will also be celebrating Earth Day in Republic Square from 9 am to 3 pm. The Earth Day celebration will include an expo of eco-friendly products (my best find last year was the eco-friendly cleaning supplies), Green Art and live music. Fun, fun, fun!
And, if you are too busy this weekend to partake, next weekend Gourmet Magazine will be at the Downtown Austin Farmers Market with give-aways, tastings and more.
Finally, I heard from the Sustainable Food Center that they have almost sold out of tickets for the Farm to Plate dinner on Thursday May 7th. If you are hoping to go, you should buy your tickets as soon as you can - they are already out of tables. And then tell me all about it, because I have to work (so bummed to miss this event again).
See you at the market and the Sunday Fair!
